What is Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of medicine that involves the insertion of very thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to promote healing, reduce pain, and restore balance.

Originating from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture is based on the understanding that the body's systems are interconnected and that disruptions in balance can contribute to pain, illness, and dysfunction. Modern research has shown that acupuncture can influence the nervous system, circulation, connective tissues, and the body's natural pain-relieving mechanisms.

Acupuncture is commonly used to help manage pain, support injury recovery, improve mobility, reduce muscle tension, and address a variety of health concerns. Many people also find acupuncture beneficial for improving sleep, reducing stress, and supporting overall well-being.

During treatment, most people experience little to no discomfort. The needles used are extremely fine, much thinner than those used for injections and treatments are tailored to each individual's needs and health goals.

Whether used on its own or as part of a Sports Medicine Acupuncture approach, acupuncture can be an effective tool for supporting the body's natural ability to heal and recover.

What to Expect During Your Visit

During your first visit, we will begin with a detailed health intake to discuss your concerns, health history, symptoms, and treatment goals. Follow-up visits typically include a shorter check-in to review your progress and any changes since your last treatment.

As part of the assessment, I will take your pulse, which provides valuable information about your overall health and helps guide treatment. Throughout your course of care, I will continue to monitor changes in your pulse as your body responds to treatment.

I will also palpate the abdomen, neck, hands, and feet, looking for areas of tenderness and positive reflex zones. These findings help me identify patterns of imbalance and formulate an individualized treatment plan.

Treatment involves the insertion of very fine, sterile acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. The goal is to influence the positive reflex zones identified during the assessment and address the underlying factors contributing to your symptoms.

Depending on your needs, treatment may also include:

  • Cupping

  • Gua Sha

  • Tui Na (Chinese therapeutic massage)

  • Lifestyle and self-care recommendations

Following treatment, it is common to feel deeply relaxed or energized. To support your recovery, it is recommended that you stay well hydrated, avoid strenuous activity for the remainder of the day, and pay attention to any changes in your symptoms. These responses can provide valuable information for future treatments.

Every treatment is tailored to your individual needs, with the goal of supporting your body's natural healing processes and helping you achieve lasting results.
