WHAT PEOPLE ARE ASKING

1

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

With Acupuncture needles being so thin, 98% of the time acupuncture does not hurt. The 2% of the time that it does, it's usually a momentary sharp sensation. There are times where you might not even feel the needle. Sensations are often felt that can include a dull ache, a heaviness, warmth, or a muscle twitch.

One of the nice things about seeing an Acupuncturist is that we have many tools to work with if needling doesn't feel right for you in the moment. This can include

*Acupressure

*Cupping

*Gua-sha

*Tui-na (Chinese massage)

Is Athletic Therapy only for Athletes?

No, Athletic Therapy is not just for athletes. It’s for everybody who has a body and needs to use it. 53% of Certified Athletic Therapists work in clinics, helping people recover from workplace injuries, surgeries, and everyday accidents, not just sports-related issues. Certified Athletic Therapists treat a wide range of patients, so treatments vary, but their objective does not. Their goal is to help everyone return to their usual activities as quickly and effectively as possible

2

What is Athletic Therapy?

Athletic therapy focuses on the prevention, assessment, and active rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries (muscles, bones, and joints). It follows the sports medicine model of care, utilizing rehabilitation methods  like manual therapies, therapeutic modalities, corrective exercise, physical reconditioning, taping and bracing in order to accelerate a persons return to pre-injury status.

The scope of practice of a Certified Athletic Therapist is based on a foundation of intensive schooling in the musculoskeletal system, exercise physiology, biomechanics and emergency care. Theoretical and practical education prepares an Athletic Therapist to specialize in injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation in both on field sport settings, and clinical care.

Is Acupuncture & Athletic Therapy Covered by my Insurance?

Many insurance companies cover both Acupuncture & Athletic Therapy but it's always a good idea to check as every plan does differ.

I do provide direct billing to most insurance companies.

3

What does Cupping Do?

Cupping uses negative pressure to create suction to decompress tissue. It's the complete opposite of treatments like massage and foam rolling which makes it very unique.

When the cups are applied to the skin, depending on the amount of suction/pressure the treatment aims are different.

Low pressure: helps to affect the lymphatic system, this system is important when it comes to swelling and moving excess fluids.

Higher pressure: helps to mobilize fascia by increasing circulation and promoting the flow of hyaluronic acid, a lubricant between tissue layers (Pratt, 2021). This can reduce muscle tightness and enhance movement.

Cupping also stimulates sensory nerves, helping to calm the autonomic nervous system and release muscle tension.

Cupping a lot of the time leaves behind circular suction makers, they aren't painful and are gone within 5-7 days.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

1

Page is always always a delight to work with. She is so knowledgeable in everything she does. I enjoy when she tells me what she is doing and why, and especially the Acupuncture. I have had it done before but the results after Page were significantly better.

Page Allison is a gift to the Kootenays. She has managed to work her magic with this body, and get my old injuries and new ones right back in line so I can run again. She goes over and above with every appointment sending me additional information and ideas for my training and recovery.....referring me for orthotics and even researching the newest running shoes that might work best for me. If you want someone to listen and who has an incredible knowledge of Athletic Therapy and Acupuncture, you cannot do better than Page Allison.

I started seeing Page for ongoing back and hip pain and the difference has been amazing. I went from crawling to the bathroom and relying on crutches to walking with very little pain. Normally I’d need medication just to get through it, but now I feel so much better. I’m incredibly grateful — thank you, Page!

I feel very fortunate to have been able to receive treatments from Page. She is extremely knowledgeable, and found an issue with my knee that neither Dr., physio or my chiropractor had. Since seeing Page, with her recommendations of specific exercises to follow as well as acupuncture treatments, my pain has reduced significantly. Page is professional and has a very caring nature. Thank you Page!

My first experience with acupuncture was with Page. She made the experience very comfortable for me. Page is professional and knowledgeable in her line of work. I returned to see Page and will continue to make appointments with her. Not only was the experience great, my recovery was fast and amazing! Going from being in so much pain to no pain at all. Page not only treated me with acupuncture in her studio but also educated me to complete at home exercises daily. Overall my experience was wonderful. Thank you Page.
